TORI AMOS

This is from the Little Earthquakes album cover

Name: Myra Ellen Amos (the name Tori came in later from someone she met)
Birthdate: August 22, 1963 (she's 34 now)
Birthplace: Newton, North Carolina

Tori Amos, has to be my favorite artist. The title of my webpage came from her song Icicle... some fellow Madonna chatters (you know who you are) can be given credit for it! I have never heard any other artist who is as deep as Tori. She has never written or sung a bad song, which makes it impossible to chose a favorite. It's also impossible to pick a favorite album because they are so different from each other.

The first album I heard was Under the Pink, her second album. I was kind of surprised, I had never heard a music style like it. The songs were next to impossible for me to figure out... fortunately I understand them better now. I bought Boys For Pele (Tori's third album) before had heard any song on the album. I was more lost with the songs on this album than I was for UtP. Finally, I got a copy of Little Earthquakes (her first album). The first time I really listened to it, I found tears running down my face. The songs are so honest...and easier to understand than the others. Since then, I've collect singles ("Crucify", "Silent All These Years" (1997 version), "Hey Jupiter" and "Caught A Lite Sneeze".), downloaded video clips, taped her live (ok, they were televised...but live all the same!) performances and found different songs on the internet. I wish I could have gotten a copy of Y Kant Tori Read (her "heavy metal" album), but unfortunatly it's out of print because it didn't sell very well. I have heard two songs from it, The Big Picture and Cool On Your Island, and loved both songs. I was lucky to find a copy of the video "Little Earthquakes", there is some live stuff, interviews and videos for "Silent All These Years", "Crucify", "China" and "Winter".

Tori is also the founder of RAINN (Rape Abuse Incest National Network). On top of being an incredible artist, she is an incredible person for starting it. I can't really say enough about her.

Rumor has it Tori's next album will be out in the spring...I can't wait! She also has a couple songs on the Great Expectations soundtrack...one is called Siren, it's great! I am not sure if there are two or three on the soundtrack all together but I hear that the other songs are great. I have heard Siren, it's different from the songs on Little Earthquakes, Under the Pink and Boys for Pele, but can you name two Tori songs that are similar?

Tori recently got married to Mark Hawley, an engineer on her albums. I don't know the date or anything about it I didn't even know Tori was seeing anybody much less engaged, but anyway, Tori if you ever see this page, Congratulations!! I also heard from rec.music.tori-amos that the cover photo of Tori's new album is a shot from Tori's snogging session with a photocopier in England...apparently the picture took about 7 minutes to make. For all you who are not familiar with the British term "snog" it means kiss.

The new album came out May 5, 1998. It's called From the Choirgirl Hotel and it's incredible. I heard the song "She's Your Cocaine" before the album was released (thanks Angel ;-). The cover and inside had some color photocopies of Tori, a little more normal pictures than the famous Tori with the pig picture in the Boys for Pele album.
